In 2002 Thomas Mayes began what would become a lifetime of helping those in need when he joined Fresenius Medical Care. While there, he specialized in water treatment and technical maintenance for the Kidney Dialysis machines that allow thousands of people every year to lead full lives that might otherwise be hampered by a variety of medical conditions. After only two years in this position, he was hired by Sparrow Health System, one of the largest healthcare systems in Michigan, to be the Technical Director in charge of Water Purification and Dialysis at the recently built Sparrow Specialty Hospital.
While still in his role at Sparrow Specialty Hospital, Thomas began his foray in the cannabis world in 2008 by becoming the caregiver to five medical marijuana patients with conditions ranging from chronic pain to terminal cancer. In this way, Thomas was able to assist people on both the macro scale in the hospital, as well the micro scale in his work with individual medical marijuana patients.
In addition to these two roles, Thomas donned yet another hat during this time when he accepted a position as the Food & Beverage Director at the University Club of Michigan State University. Here he gained invaluable experience as the Project Manager and Designer of a multimillion-dollar renovation of the 3,000 sq ft. space that included a restaurant, lounge, and 50 table banquet facility.
In 2016 after 12 years with the company Thomas, who both needed a change and realized the massive potential of an emerging market, resigned from his position at Sparrow Health Systems to become the co-founder of the Greenwave Dispensary in Lansing, Michigan. Working as both Project Manager and COO, Thomas simultaneously oversaw the renovation of a dilapidated fast-food restaurant into a state of the art medical marijuana facility and the development of the Greenwave Dispensary brand into one of the most recognizable names of the Michigan cannabis scene.
